Ripped audio goes to "funky" location

I've tried ripping music to a "private" folder. It shows up in the listing, eventually, but viewing the album shows multiple copies of each track, and then attempting to play any track results in the error

/home/public/data/other/Software Raid 5 [Raid 5
[32](32]/public/data/other/Software)/public/data/other/Software Raid 5 [Raid 5
[32](32]/public/data/other/Software)/public/data/other/Software Raid 5 [Raid 5
[32](32]/public/data/other/Software)/public/data/oth/Track 1.ogg not found

or something very similar to that. I pulled that location out of the database.

"/home/public/data/Software Raid 5 [32]" is a soft link pointing to "/mnt/device/32"

It seems to this newb that something is going into some sort of infinite loop when trying to rip music. Very frustrating. In fact it's a killer for me.
