Windows Orbiter Reports UpdateBinary Error under Windows Vista
Under Windows Vista the windows orbiter reports an error as follows on launch:
Unable to download UpdateBinary to 'UpdateBinary.exe' folder. Please check if the 'Path' device is correct
This seems to be as a result of Vista's rather strict file access rules. Changing the Path field for the orbiter device to a path where Vista allows writing fixes the problem.
Perhaps the default Path field ought to be %APPDATA%/Pluto
. Right now it is blank by default and the orbiter tries to write to the folder from which the orbiter is run.
Note that if %APPDATA%/Pluto
is used, the orbiter application will need to expand %APPDATA%
which it does not seem to currently do. Also, something would need to create the actual Pluto folder in %APPDATA%
.
There is a working workaround in the wiki here:
